City-Led Open House Scheduled – February 23, 2017

The City of Calgary has scheduled an open house in regards to this project for Thursday, February 23, 5 – 8 pm at Oak Park Church. The open house will be a drop in format, where area residents can come and view details of the proposed land-use and development permit applications, ask questions and provide feedback to the City Planning Department.

For application information, please visit http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Pages/Current-studies-and-ongoing-activities/Oakridge-Crossing.aspx

For those who cannot attend the open house, an online survey will also be available in late February to gather feedback. A link to the survey will be provided on this site, as well as by the city once active. Please check back to this site for updates.

We hope to see you at the open house on the 23rd!

It appears that the only advertisement that most people will see regarding this meeting is a sign that reads

Am I to believe that this wording is an attempt to inform the general public that this is a meeting about rezoning a huge piece of property and building apartments that) will possibly be 14 stories high? (as a city planner told me recently)

The poor choice of wording in this sign is an obvious choice to pretend that one has gone through the motions of informing the general public so that one can quickly move ahead with the approval process. I have taken a picture of this sign and asked others what they though it was about….. guess what? Nobody had even the slightest idea that it was about a redevelopment project of the current proposed scale.

Hi Bruce – The Open House was a City led open house and they determined the advertising. Other methods were used by the City to let people know and they could better explain what those were.. We also advertised this particular open house using social media, email and other online channels. In terms of making the public aware of the project, we’ve been doing engagement activities for months. The list of what we’ve been doing can be found here: http://oakridgecrossingyyc.ca/?page_id=15425. Thank you for your comments

I felt there was not a lot of information at the open house. All there was was some artists rendering of a supposed idea without any thoughts on parking, impact on the community for traffic etc. also, who actually owes the property? If it is the Coop, then should not the membership have been notified? I have been a member since 1967 and I think as a member we should have some input.

Hi Sandra – the Open House was a city led open house and they determined what information to provide and the format. They did have representatives on hand to discuss traffic as well as other portions of the development. You will find there is more information on this site and we’d be happy to answer any additional questions you may have.
Co-op is the land holder. Co-op members were informed at the 2016 AGM as well as through an in-store information kiosk over several weeks last Fall. There were also signs in the store. You are more than welcome to provide your feedback now on the project – it is not too late. You may do so by emailing questions@oakridgecrossingyyc.ca. Thank you.
